About Us
Aloha friends, my name is Sarah, and I am the owner of the Lava Pond Lodge™.
I was a mainland professional with a dream to own and operate my own B&B.
After visiting the Big Island and the Lava Pond Lodge Bed & Breakfast in Volcano on our honeymoon, Leo and I both fell in love with Hawaiʻi Island and the property. I had previously been to all six islands, and Hawaiʻi Island had always held a special place in my heart. After taking my husband Leo here, it sealed the deal. It took us a couple of years to sell our lovely home in New England and get all our ducks in a row to take the leap into fulfilling my dream.
UPDATE:
It has been an incredible journey these last few years, and I have met hundreds of travelers from all over the world. I love exchanging travel stories with our guests as I've been an avid traveler for many years myself, having visited over 44 countries on 6 continents. It has truly been a pleasure. I look forward to meeting you when you visit us at the Lava Pond Lodge.
In 2023 I began a new journey and became a Travel Agent. If you need travel arrangements or a custom-tailored experience made just for you, I will find you the most competitive rates possible and be your single point of contact. Not only do I have a passion for travel, but I also have a passion for travel planning.
Why change a good thing?
We purchased the Lava Pond Lodge in early January 2021 and remain genuinely excited for what this endeavor holds for us.
Since then, much has changed on the island and in Volcano: new trails, new neighbors, new ways to see the park. We've kept the lodge itself largely as it was, because it was built right the first time. What we've put our energy into instead is the parts that aren't architecture: the breakfast, the advice for your day in the park, and the feeling of arriving somewhere you're expected.
Some things are worth changing. The beds, we'll leave alone.
Our goal:
Is to continue building on the great reputation the Lava Pond Lodge is known and adored for. Warm and friendly hosts, breathtaking surroundings, and a convenient location to the sites you came to see.
We are also becoming closer with the community and culture here as we establish and grow our ʻohana on the Big Island. We support local businesses, and we will always give back where we can, when we can.
