The Full Story

Our Native rainforest Bed & Breakfast is ideally situated for travelers looking for a relaxing and tranquil evening after a day of exploration. The Lava Pond Lodge features artisan beds with soft linens, private baths, cozy fireplaces, and a gourmet tropical breakfast.

Lava Pond Lodge is a Contemporary Craftsman Cottage designed by renowned Canadian architect John Robinson and built by Paul Baillie & Sons of Kea'au Hawaii. The home was specifically built for tropical rainforest living.

Be sure to bring an appetite! The complimentary all-you-can-eat breakfast is a gourmet delight of local tropical goodies featuring local ingredients you'd never find in a hotel. And if you appreciate a cup of good coffee or tea like I do, you'll get to sample some unique flavors of Hawaii with 100% Hawaiian Coffee. Breakfast is served at 8 AM. Coffee or tea is available at 7:30 AM. Grab a cup and pick your spot at the breakfast table.

WHAT TO BRING:

Volcano is situated at 3800' elevation in a unique native rainforest and experiences cool evenings. A light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt is appropriate. You may borrow a flashlight for night time lava viewing. Due to the elevation, you may also want sunscreen and a hat, especially if you plan to do some hiking. There are scenic vistas everywhere and only a couple general stores with short hours and limited supplies.

In keeping with Hawaiian custom, we ask that you remove your shoes in the house.

GIFT SHOP:

We have a small gift shop onsite. We sell a variety of sunscreens, chap sticks, hand salves, Hawaiian moisture wicking quick dry beach towels, and rain ponchos, among other items.

Lava Pond Lodge Policies

MINIMUM STAYS

All our rooms have a 2-night minimum stay with the exception of the entire house rental which requires a 3-night minimum stay (Breakfast not included). If you require a one-night stay, we may be able to accommodate your request, but a $60 cleaning surcharge will be added to the cost of your stay. Please contact us via email or phone to discuss availability.

IMPORTANT HOLIDAY INFORMATION
Winter holiday reservations (15 December to 15 January) are non-refundable after Sept 25th.
Merrie Monarch reservations are non-refundable after Feb 1.

RESERVATION

We reserve the right to charge a deposit to your credit card equivalent to 50% of your total room and tax at the time of booking and the balance of any incidental charges within 7 days of your arrival. We accept all major credit cards online and over the phone.

CANCELLATION

One month notice is required for a full refund. We do not accept cancellations within 14 days of arrival. In extraordinary circumstances, we may allow you to postpone your stay. Holidays are an exception to this policy, please see holiday information.

CHECK-IN TIME

Check-in time is between 3pm and 7pm.
If you are unable to check in during those hours, please contact your host, Sarah, to arrange for early or late check-in. Please be aware that there are no streetlights in Volcano and it can be difficult to find your way around at night. Please try to coordinate your schedule so you can check-in prior to sunset which is before 6:30 PM.

NO SMOKING

We are a clean, smoke free property, environmentally conscious house. Sorry, but for the pleasure and comfort of all our guests smoking of any kind is not permitted.

Please Note: We have two small hypoallergenic Maltese pups that you might hear or occasionally see out in the yard. They are very friendly and would love to come say "hello" if requested.
